There are three key skills you can leverage to calm an uncomfortable or threatening situation.

Inner awareness employs understanding of your beliefs, values, ethics, and morals. This skill helps you recognize uncomfortable situations and empowers you to empathetically enforce your boundaries.

Outer awareness acknowledge that everyone comes from different backgrounds and has different comfort levels in the same situation. This skill enables you to distinguish between what is annoying and what is threatening.

If inner awareness is understanding yourself, then outer awareness is understanding the situation you are in or the potential of a situation to escalate.

Find out how to use your presence, voice, and projected touch to shift a situation from threatening to non-threatening. Use deescalation methods to obtain assistance should you find yourself in dangerous situation. While waiting for assistance you can change the trajectory of the conflict while help is on its way.

These self-defense techniques, tools, and tactics are not physically harmful to anyone and can help you stay safe.
